365体育备用网址A Message from Mr. Streelman:
First of all, thank you for your patience regarding our updates on remote learning. We were waiting for Governor Newsom’s update yesterday to see if it would include guidelines for the reopening of schools. We were hoping and praying that a plan would be laid out that would allow us to come back for the final two weeks of school. Unfortunately, it looks as if the staged re-opening of California does not include schools at this point and there are not yet clear guidelines concerning how schools could operate under the proper protocol or how our entire student body could be together safely. Given all of this information, the SVC admin team has made the decision that remote learning will be extended through the end of the school year.
365体育备用网址Mrs. Jensen and Mr. Markum are working with their teams on various smaller group gatherings in order to celebrate graduations, say goodbye to classmates and teachers, and gather belongings. These can take place mostly outside and will allow us to operate within the guidelines laid out by the state. Information on these events will come directly from them over the next couple of days. We will do everything we can to end well and make this a very meaningful, although different, celebration — especially for our Seniors and 8th graders.
Thank you all for the patience and grace that you have extended to our entire staff. God bless!
APRIL 24, 2020:
At this time, given the mandates by the state of California, we are extending remote learning, with the first POSSIBLE return day now May 11th. As you know, the guidelines and plans are changing rapidly. We are hopeful that the state will have guidelines in place that will allow us to return to campus safely on May 11th. We will continue to keep you updated.

In light of ongoing Coronavirus safety concerns and the statewide “stay at home” mandate, we will be extending distance education until at least Friday, May 1st. As of right now, the earliest possible return date would be Monday, May 4th. We will continue to observe next week as Easter Break as originally scheduled.
Our teachers are committed to continuing to provide exceptional instruction on a remote basis. And our entire staff is committed to praying for our SVC family during this challenging time. Please continue to pray for our school, our community, our country, and our world as we walk through these unchartered waters.
Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. Phil 4:6

365体育备用网址Ideas from Mrs. Jensen for when Elementary/Jr. High students utter those dreaded words, “There’s nothing to do.”
– This website is full of kid-friendly videos. As always, you may want to check content first. You do NOT need to sign up for a subscription, even if a subscribe box pop up when you open go to the website.
– Some of the content is for younger students. It includes games, videos, etc.
– For those times when your child needs to get up and move.
– Many teachers have utilized breakoutedu in their classrooms. This collection is different than the games our teachers utilize in their lessons. Breakoutedu games are similar to Escape Rooms that are popular right now. These games can also be done as a family. You do need to sign up, but there should not be a cost as breakoutedu is making this available for families during this time. There is a tutorial on the opening screen if needed. The games are listed by grade level.

MARCH 13, 2020 UPDATE:
365体育备用网址On March 13th, we elevated our response level for Coronavirus to Level Three. As a result, we are currently under an organized, temporary school closure.
This action was taken out of an abundance of caution. It is important to note that there has been no indication of any cases of COVID-19 at SVC.
What does this mean for your family?
-During the closure, neither students nor parents should be on campus. All activities (e.g., athletic games/practices, powder puff, the HS dance, Legally Blonde) have either been cancelled or postponed.
-At this point, we are expecting a minimum two-week closure.
–We have transitioned to remote learning during this period of campus closure. Teachers are delivering their instruction via online platforms. Specific information about remote learning, including assignments, is being provided to students directly by their teachers. General information about each school level’s plan for instructional continuity can be found here: Elementary, Jr. High, High School. We have also produced videos to help our students transition to remote learning. Please click on the link which pertains to your child: ,
-Remote instruction will begin on Tues., 3/17. Monday , 3/16 will be an inservice day to prepare for the online platforms we will be using.
365体育备用网址-During this closure, the campus will effectively be closed down, with no one – including staff – on campus. This will allow us to fully clean and disinfect the campus before students return.
365体育备用网址Rest assured … the decision to temporarily close the school was one which was made after considerable monitoring of the situation and, more importantly, much prayer. We know that this situation is disconcerting. Isn’t it wonderful that it did NOT catch our God off-guard? He is still on the Throne, and He still has us in His loving hands.

-General questions about the planned, temporary closure: email@example.com
-Assignment-specific questions: Email your child’s teacher(s) directly
